The 1620 was announced in 1959 as a general purpose, stored-program data processing system. This image shows (from left) the IBM 1622 Card-Read Punch, 1623 Storage Unit (at the rear) and the 1620 Central Processing Unit (in front), which contained the console, arithmetic and logical unit, and core storage.
